Biography
Marisa Sandler is an associate in Tannenbaum Helpern’s Employment Law practice. She represents employers and executive employees in employment matters ranging from litigation to counseling and compliance. Marisa represents clients across all industries, with a focus on the healthcare and staffing industries.
Employment Litigation
Marisa vigorously represents clients in state and federal courts, arbitrations, administrative proceedings, and workplace and government investigations. She frequently litigates claims of discrimination, harassment, and retaliation, breaches of confidentiality and restrictive covenant agreements, and wage and hour violations. Her experience includes drafting pleadings, briefs, and memoranda, including dispositive motions, and preparing position statements and responses to administrative charges of discrimination.
HR Counseling and Compliance
Marisa also counsels clients on day-to-day employment issues, such as:
- sexual harassment and discrimination,
- leave and accommodation requests,
- workplace health and safety,
- wage and hour compliance, including minimum wage, overtime and exemptions from overtime, and recordkeeping obligations,
- independent contractor classification,
- personnel and termination issues, and
- reductions in force.
HR Policies and Employment Agreements
Marisa prepares offer letters, background checking documents, company policies, employee handbooks, employment and independent contractor agreements, confidentiality and restrictive covenant agreements, arbitration agreements, and separation agreements.
Pro Bono Work
Marisa serves on Tannenbaum Helpern’s Pro Bono Committee and provides pro bono legal services through the firm’s pro bono program. Her recent pro bono experience includes successfully representing a 26-year old Cameroonian, who is seeking asylum in the U.S., in his application for release from ICE detention.
Recognized as a Rising Star in Super Lawyers 2020 and 2021, Marisa graduated from The George Washington University Law School, where she was awarded the American Bar Association/Bloomberg BNA Award for Excellence in the Study of Labor and Employment Law, and served as Senior Managing Editor to the Journal of Energy and Environmental Law.
