James Munro
Moderator | Bloomberg News

James Munro is a Product Manager in the Portfolio & Risk Analytics group at Bloomberg. In this role, he is helping evolve the community for Hedge Funds Managers and their investors on the Terminal. Prior to joining Bloomberg, James was a partner with Albourne. There he worked as a Portfolio Analyst with some of the most prestigious institutional investors on their Alternative Asset portfolios, with a focus on Hedge Funds. James holds an M.B.A. from Smurfit Business School (Dublin, Ireland), and is a CAIA charter holder. He received both his B.A. in Engineering and Mathematics from Trinity College (Dublin, Ireland).

Clark Cheng
Chief Investment Officer | Merrimac Corp.

Clark Cheng, CFA, FRM, joined Merrimac at the end of 2014 and is the Chief Investment Officer. Merrimac is a single family office. Prior to Merrimac, he was responsible for managing the hedge fund due diligence process in the Americas for HSBC’s Alternative Investment Group which had $39B in hedge fund investments across both discretionary and advisory mandates. Before joining HSBC, Clark performed hedge fund research at Guggenheim Partners and Morgan Stanley between 2002 and 2005. Prior to joining Morgan Stanley, he worked at Credit Suisse First Boston’s equity research department in 2001. Prior to that, he spent six years building and establishing West Coast Economics. Clark holds the Chartered Financial Analyst, Financial Risk Manager and Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst designations. He holds a Masters Degree in Business Administration from Duke University and a Bachelors of Arts Degree in Business/Economics and Psychology from UCLA.

Kara Friedenberg
Partner | PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP

Kara Friedenberg is an Alternative Investments Tax Partner in PwC's Asset Management practice. Kara provides both tax consulting and compliance services to a wide range of alternative investment clients, including hedge funds, private equity funds, fund of funds, and investment advisors. She specializes in advising clients on fund structures and financial products. Her clients include both institutional asset managers and independently sponsored asset managers and start-up funds.

Kara created and is the moderator of PwC's Alternative Investments Tax Webcast Series, which provides clients and industry professionals a perspective on a range of topics, including new asset classes, fund of funds tax considerations, enhancing the tax function, year-end tax planning, and tax legislation impacting the industry. She also serves as the Quality and Risk Management National Liaison for Asset Management. Additionally, she is part of the core Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act ("FATCA") team at PwC, specifically focusing on FATCA as it applies to the asset management industry, and has co-authored many of the FATCA client alerts, including What Does the Cayman IGA Really Mean to the Asset Management Industry?

Kara earned her B.S. degree in Economics with a concentration in Accounting, magna cum laude, at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and her M.B.A. in Finance, summa cum laude, at Fordham Graduate School of Business. She is active in many non-profit organizations dedicated to child advocacy. She sits on the Hedge Funds Care Global Board of Directors and is an active volunteer with Junior Achievement of New York and Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership.

Rahul Mahajan
Head of the Emerging Managers Group | Deutsche Bank

Rahul Mahajan is Head of the Emerging Managers Group which delivers Deutsche Bank's equities franchise, capital introductions services, business consulting, prime brokerage etc. to start up hedge funds. Prior to joining Deutsche Bank in 2007, Rahul was at HSBC where he was responsible for marketing a variety of special situation assets to hedge funds. Prior to HSBC Rahul was a quantitative risk analyst at Barclays Capital. Rahul is a CFA charter holder, holds an MBA in finance from the University of Maryland and has a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from India.

Michael G. Tannenbaum

Michael G. Tannenbaum is a founding partner of Tannenbaum Helpern Syracuse & Hirschtritt LLP where he co-heads the firm’s Financial Services, Private Funds and Capital Markets practice.

With almost 40 years of experience in the field, Michael regularly advises clients on the structure and U.S. regulatory aspects of investment management, SEC and CFTC compliance, marketing of private funds, hedge funds and private equity arrangements (fund formation and underlying portfolio transactions), and commodity pools as well as structuring various seeding arrangements and related tax implications. His clients include U.S. and non-U.S. investment advisers, placement agents, institutional sponsors and investment banks, multi-manager platforms, non-U.S. professionals as to matters of U.S. law and family offices on regulatory and organization matters.

Michael has served as an arbitrator in complex private financial services disputes and has written numerous articles on hedge fund law and regulation. He is a frequent speaker at industry conferences and is listed in the Who’s Who of Private Fund Lawyers, Best Lawyers and Super Lawyers. Michael is active in the International Bar Association (Investment Funds) and has served as Vice Chair of the American Bar Association’s Hedge Funds Sub-committee.
