Defended Russian Oil Company against international efforts to enforce Swedish arbitration award.

Case Title: Defended Russian Oil Company against international efforts to enforce Swedish arbitration award.
Practice Area: Litigation and Dispute Resolution
Case Desc:

Client and related entity were sued by oil and gas servicing company based on a contract with the related entity, which obtained a multi-million dollar judgment against both entities. We defended the oil company against enforcement efforts in federal court in New York, we assisted in the defense of enforcement actions in the Commercial Court in London and the federal court in Houston, and we assisted in efforts to vacate the award in Stockholm. Our principal defenses in the US and England were based upon an international treaty and lack of personal jurisdiction. Our principal arguments in Stockholm were based upon the legal distinctions between our client and the company with whom the oil and gas servicing company had contracted and performed their services.

After several notable wins in the US and England, the parties reached a very favorable settlement.

Attorney(s): Jamie B.W. Stecher
